A Feminist Approach to Leadership and Legacy

Women have taken leadership roles even when their activism, in and of itself, was cause for social censure.

What characteristics distinguish many of the women who have helped the world to change?  How have our approaches to leadership shown up in organizational structures and to what end?  How are feminist ideas about leadership reflected in many of today's most popular management theories?  What are the challenges in front of us as we try to change our world?  This talk will address these issues and more  - be ready for a provocative discussion to follow!

The Power of Voice

presented by

Kathryn Kiefer [bio]

Women and men can walk away from the same conversation with completely different impressions of what was said.

This presentation helps structure your talk the way people absorb information, creates concise key messages, weaves them through a presentation and address how best to use gestures which add to ones effectiveness rather than distract the listener.

2:15 - 3:15 PM

Leaders Panel Discussion

Reflections as a Leader:

Successes, Failures and the Transformation of Women Leaders

moderated by Mary Ann Moore

"Daring to Lead 2006: A National Study of Nonprofit Executive Leadership" states about nonprofit leaders:

The nonprofit sector depends on these talented, skilled and visionary leaders.  They are committed, creative and tenacious.  They produce amazing results with inadequate resources.  By daring to lead nonprofit organizations, they dare to change the world.

  • Amy Beechner-McCarthy, Executive Director, Phelps County Community Partnership
  • Barbara Cempura, President & CEO, Big Brothers Big Sisters Southwestern Illinois
  • Debra Hollingsworth, Senior Vice President - External Affairs, AT&T Missori
  • Theresa Mayberry-Dunn, President & CEO, Grace Hill Settlement House
  • Ann L. Vazquez, President, Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis

A panel of Executive Directors and Presidents will engage in honest discussion about their leadership journeys, what keeps them going in the face of extraordinary challenges and how their commitment to changing the world has lead to transformation.
