Staff

Deborah L. Cooper

President

Deborah brings considerable leadership skills, management experience and business accumen to her position as NSC's President.  Most recently she was Vice President and Chief Program Officer at the Missouri Foundation for Health where she led the Foundation's internal and external program activities, including grantmaking and special projects.   Prior to MFH, Deborah was President and CEO of Myrtle Hilliard Davis Comprehensive Health Centers providing leadership to a staff of 95 health professionals and supporting personnel.   Deborah holds an undergraduate degree in bacteriology from Iowa State University and a Masters in Business from Webster University.

Lawrence H. Ditto, CTP

Operations Manager

Larry comes to NSC with more than ten years of financial experience working in the retail and healthcare industries including extensive cash management, treasury analysis, financial reporting, and general accounting as well as interaction with IT in the development of financial reports.  

Prior to joining NSC, Larry was with Sisters of Mercy Health System for seven years, most recently as their Senior Treasury Analyst.  He also served as staff accountant for St. Louis Children’s Hospital and as a cash management analyst for May Department Stores.

Since 2003, Larry has been an active member of the Association for Financial Professionals earning the certified treasury professional (CTP) designation.  Larry has a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and an M.A. in Finance from Webster University.  He is currently studying for the CPA exam.

Carmen Garcia

Comunications Manager

Carmen has been with NSC since 2003 where she manages all of NSC's written materials, website content and email communication as well as all of NSC’s brand image and communications priorities.  Carmen also plays an integral role in program development and execution, most recently evidenced through the Midwest Leadership Institute program and BoardLinkStL. 

Prior to joining NSC, Carmen was a successful entrepreneur in event coordination and management, Hispanic marketing and tourism. She has worked with and consulted for a variety of Hispanic organizations, arts and cultural nonprofits throughout the state of Missouri, including creation and coordination of “Hispanic Day at the Ballpark” with both the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals. The event brought national attention to the Hispanic communities in those cities, as well as the contribution of Latino ballplayers to the game.   Carmen can even boast of being interviewed by Jack Buck in both Spanish and English. 

Kristy Guttmann

Program Manager

Kristy's previous experience in the public sector includes a position at the St. Louis Regional Arts Commission and at the University of Arkansas.  She currently serves on the board of KDHX Community Media and the St. Louis chapter of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network.

In addition to her work as a nonprofit administrator and volunteer, Kristy uses various forms of electronic and photographic media to explore topics related to the human experience.  She is currently producing a series of short conversations for radio featuring everyday people talking about everyday things.

Kristy has an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Arkansas and a B.A. in Photography and Media Communications from Webster University.

 

Clarence M. Hauer

Senior Director, Strategy and Organizational Impact

Clarence has over 17 years experience in project management; human resources management and development; and strategic planning. Prior to coming to NSC, he served as the Executive Director for the Regional Center for Nonprofit Administration, a management and fiscal services provider to nonprofit organizations. In this capacity, he was responsible for overseeing the implementation of the organization’s strategic and operating plans, developing and managing customer relations, managing contracts and representing the RCNA Board of Directors to client and community organizations. 

Prior to RCNA, Clarence held a variety of administrative positions with such organizations as the Sisters of Mercy Health System, headquartered in St. Louis, MO, WakeMed in Raleigh, NC, and Mercy Health Services in Farmington Hills, MI.  Clarence has an M.S. in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.S. in Biochemistry from North Carolina State University.

Claire Vatterott Hundelt, MSW, CFRE

Director, Programs and Services

For 20 years, Claire has served as trustee for the Vatterott Foundation which started in 1948,  supports early educational and human service organizations serving low income and minority individuals and families. She started the Vatterott Foundation Youth Board, which is in its fifth annual grant cycle. Native to St. Louis, Claire received an undergraduate degree from St. Louis University and her MSW from Washington University with an emphasis in non-profit management.

In addition to serving as trustee on the Vatterott Foundation, Claire is currently an adjunct professor at Washington University’s George Warren Brown School of Social Work.  Prior to NSC, Claire was Program Manager for Sister of Mercy Ministries, a charitable foundation and subsidiary of the Sisters of Mercy Health System.  There, she managed over $1 million in annual grant support for advocacy efforts and community-based ministries serving low-income individuals in Louisiana, Mississippi and Belize, Central America.  She is certified as a fund raising executive having worked in development for Lutheran Family & Children’s Services Foundation as Manager of Leadership Gifts and the American Red Cross St. Louis Bi-State Chapter where she initiated their Major Gifts Program.

Stacey Hughes

Administrative Assistant

Stacey brings nine years of administrative experience focused primarily in the legal field as well as ten years of customer service experience to NSC.  Prior to coming to NSC, she worked for two St. Louis law firms (one St. Louis based and one Kansas City based) as a legal administrative assistant.  Stacey also opened an art gallery and banquet facility in Edwardsville, Illinois along with a partner.  Her customer service skills come from many years of working for one of the major grocery retail chains in the St. Louis area as well as owning and running a business.  Stacey considers customer service of the utmost importance when trying to build a client base and keep customers coming back and is proud to be the first voice you hear on the phone or the first person you will see when you visit NSC.  Stacey has an Associate Degree in Science from Lewis & Clark Community College majoring in psychology.  Stacey is also certified as an Administrative Assistant.
