Mission

Derived from our core belief system and acting as a central organizer and driver of our work, our organization's mission statement is as follows:

The mission of NSC is to strengthen our region's nonprofit organizations and the nonprofit sector as a whole by providing programs, services, and resources that inform, promote, and connect nonprofits as they work to improve people's lives.

Vision Statement

Our mission statement describes what we are trying to accomplish in our work.  Our vision statement speaks to what we hope to bring about.  It is an articulation of the difference we hope to see in the world because we exist.

As a result of our work, we envision our region's nonprofits serving as leaders in the creation of communities that are safer, more just, and more vibrant places for people to live.  Specifically, in fulfillment of this role, nonprofit organizations will be more viable, impactful, and accountable to the populations served.  Nonprofits will be characterized by a commitment to quality, a desire to collaborate, an openness to new ideas, and an intentioned involvement of community stakeholders in their work.  We further envision that our work will lead to a regional environment in which the citizenry understands, supports and promotes the nonprofit sector through the provision of sufficient financial and other material resource supports and by various levels of personal involvement in the work of nonprofits.

Theory of Change

Our theory of change is intended to describe how we think it is possible to realize the vision.

NSC believes that nonprofit organizations are an integral agent in the development of communities that sustain and enrich the lives of the people within them.  Through their unique ability to engage and empower people to be active on their own behalf, nonprofits serve as catalysts for positive, substantive change in the conditions that affect the lives of their constituents.  Therefore, the foundational premise of our organization's work is the cultivation of an environment in which nonprofits can flourish as these catalysts of effective social change through a program model based on solid evidence-based research and practice.  Our offerings are delivered utilizing a blended approach of learning modalities and resources with the intention of providing the targeted audience with both a conceptual understanding of the subject matter as well as assistance to integrate the learning objectives into the actual daily practice of their work and/or lives.

Values

Commitment

As a service provider focused on the nonprofit sector, we have the privilege to engage in the work of organizations that serve populations and interests that are of vital concern and importance to our society at large. Our work will demonstrate the shared commitment we have with the broader sector in its essential work.

Integrity

We believe that if we are to be effective in assisting nonprofits in the enhancement of their capacities to serve communities, we must be perceived as trustworthy, capable, proficient, and consistent in the delivery of services that are based on sound research and practice.  To this end, we will perform our responsibilities in a manner that is in accordance with the highest professional and ethical standards.

Quality

We will conduct every aspect of our work in a manner that emphasizes efficiency, effectiveness and quality. We will employ and foster promising practices, allowing us to serve as a model in our field both regionally and nationally.

Accountability

We know that our success is integrally linked to the investment of time, knowledge and resources by our customers, partners and sponsors. Therefore, we recognize our continual obligation to these vital stakeholders to be good stewards of these investments, conducting our work with transparency and openness to scrutiny.

Inclusion

We will ensure that the perspectives of our major stakeholders are evident in all of our endeavors, utilizing processes that continuously seek their input for the development, implementation and evaluation of our programs and services.

Collaboration

The [organization name] represents a collaboration of organizations and a collaboration of individuals. As such we will employ attitudes and work habits that exemplify and facilitate collaboration at its best – respect, support, open communication, and the sharing of best practices and resources.
